What this site collects, and what happens to it

Short version: an email address if you give me one, and the ordinary analytics and advertising data that Meta and Google collect when you visit. I do not sell anything about you to anyone.

Who is responsible

This site is run by Faiz Fikak, a GIA graduate gemologist working from Dubai, United Arab Emirates. If you want to reach me about anything on this page, write to faiz@nooneliedtoyou.com.

If you give me your email address

The field card form asks for one thing: an email address. I use it to send you the field card, and occasionally to write to you about the book. That is all it is for.

Addresses are stored with Kit (formerly ConvertKit), an email service based in the United States, which keeps them on my behalf. Every email I send has an unsubscribe link, and one click is enough. You do not have to ask me.

If you buy the book

Payment is handled by Gumroad, not by me. Gumroad takes your payment details; I never see your card. What reaches me is your name, your email address, and what you bought, so I can send you the book and deal with refunds. Gumroad has its own privacy policy covering what it does with payment data.

Advertising and analytics

Two third-party trackers run on this site, on every page.

Meta (Facebook and Instagram)

The Meta pixel tells Meta that a browser visited a page here, which pages, and whether certain things happened — that you viewed the sales page, clicked through to the checkout, or signed up for the field card. Along with that, Meta receives your IP address, information about your browser and device, and any Facebook or Instagram cookies already on your machine, which is what lets Meta connect the visit to an account.

I use it for two things: to see whether the advertising is working, and to show ads to people who have been here. I do not upload customer lists to Meta and I cannot see who you are from it — I only see counts.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics 4 records which pages are visited, roughly where in the world the visit came from, worked out from the IP address, and how people move through the site. It sets cookies to tell one visit from another. I use it to understand which parts of the site people actually read.

Cookies

The cookies on this site come from Meta and Google, for the purposes above. The site itself does not set any cookie to track you. Your browser can block or delete all of them, and the site works normally without them — the pages are written so that if the tracking is blocked, nothing breaks.

Your choice, if you are in the UK or Europe

If you are visiting from the UK, the EU or the EEA, nothing above loads until you say so. On your first visit you are asked, plainly, at the foot of the page. Decline and neither Meta nor Google is contacted at all — no pixel, no analytics, no cookies from either of them. The site behaves exactly the same either way, which is the point: none of this is load-bearing for you, only for me.

Your answer is remembered in your own browser, not on any server. Clearing your browser data forgets it and you will be asked again.

How long things are kept

Email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete you. Purchase records are kept as long as I need them for tax and refund purposes. Meta and Google set their own retention periods, which I do not control.

Getting removed

Write to faiz@nooneliedtoyou.com and ask. I will delete your email address and tell you when it is done. You can also ask me what I hold about you, and I will send it. If you want to be out of the advertising data specifically, that is controlled in your Facebook and Instagram ad settings and in your browser's cookie settings, not by me.

Changes

If this changes in a way that matters, the change will appear on this page.
